What to do in the event of a death

Notify the Burial Society and also your Synagogue and Rabbi.

If our offices are closed we have an answer-phone for leaving a message or alternatively if an emergency removal is required our answer-phone message gives details of what to do.

Obtain a death certificate from the Doctor or Hospital, stating the cause of death.

Take the death certificate to the Registrar for Births and Deaths. It must be the Registrar in the area where the death occurred.

Phone the burial society office once you have been issued with the relevant documentation. The burial society office will advise you what to do next.

Once funeral arrangements have been made with the burial society, contact your Synagogue Administrator who will assist with shiva arrangements etc.and will liaise with the Rabbi about the funeral.

Speak personally to the Rabbi about the funeral service.

Notify family and friends of the funeral arrangements.
