About Us

The Jewish Joint Burial Society founded in 1969 by five Reform synagogues for the purpose of providing funerals for its members has grown to 35 Reform and Masorti Synagogues affiliated to it throughout this country.

The Society is an independent charitable organisation run by a board of governors which consist of a representative from each full member synagogue and seven elected governors. It is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee; each governor is a director of the company.

The Synagogues are covered either for funerals or funeral costs depending on their location in England. Burials are conducted in our cemetery at Cheshunt and Cremations at Golders Green and sometimes other crematoria in London.

All funerals at Cheshunt, or cremations at various London crematoria and all enquiries are handled by our offices in Wanstead, London E.11 which are based on the site of Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue.
